Smitty, a Morgan horse, is owned by ATR Intl. and lives off site at a near-by ranch. Born in March 1986, we acquired Smitty when he was already quite an old horse in September of 2001. His past history had a substantial amount of traditional horsemanship and probably as a result; he came to us due to his being a difficult and temperamental (often dangerous) animal.

Throughout the years we have cultivated a positive reinforcement-based relationship with Smitty by using food and attention as reinforcement for good behavior. We have also developed a new horse training style combining Parelli Natural Horsemanship through our work with Dave Lichman, and modern marine mammal training techniques like bridge and target training. Smitty is thriving and has completed level one in the Parelli system and enjoys weekly training sessions covering many advanced behaviors. He now acts as a demonstration animal for certain ATR classes and workshops.
